Humanitarian Minister Sends Relief Items To Flood Victims In Jigawa

The government and people of Jigawa State have expressed sympathy to the minister of humanitarian affairs, disaster management, and social development Sadiya Umar Farouq over the flash floods that destroyed agriculture and left many people homeless.

On Sunday, August 28, 2022, flooding was a result of a lot of rain in Jigawa State.

Sankara, Karnaya, Birnin Kudu, and Gwaram settlements in Ringim and Dutse local government districts are those most severely affected.

According to reports, 2,000 homes were damaged statewide and at least 2,051 individuals were forced to leave their homes in Karnaya.

To lessen the impact of the floods, the Minister has ordered an immediate evaluation by authorities from the National Emergency Management Agency and the distribution of rapid assistance supplies to the affected towns.

After a three-story building fell on Beirut Road alongside a well-liked GSM market in Kano metropolis, Minister Umar Farouq expressed his sympathy to the state’s administration and citizens there.

After receiving notification of the incident, the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) quickly dispatched emergency personnel to the scene to conduct rescue efforts.

The Minister has also expressed sympathy to the slain and their families.

While one person was declared deceased, eight people were saved and transferred to Murtala Muhammed Specialist Hospital for treatment.

Six further patients with minor wounds have received care and been released.

The Minister however directed a continued search and rescue operation to make sure that all trapped persons are rescued from the rubbles.
